CIVILITY IN A CULTURE OF CONTEMPT

There is an increasing awareness that Christian Unity week is much more than about the unity between Protestants and Catholics. There is something more basic and fundamental at stake. Questions are emerging about how we can have an honest debate and explore differences between us - whether those differences be political, religious, cultural or ethnic. In a time of pluralism and rapid change, the challenge for our society is how to maintain civility while avoiding a culture of contempt.

In this excellent presentation, Dr Arthur Brooks gives a talk and offers advice on how this might happen. He is speaking as an American and in the American context that has seen much polarisation in recent years. However, his insights are also relevant to all countries and cultures.
