As the Church enters holy week, we begin with Palm Sunday that commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem when he was initially welcomed with cries of joy, welcome and praise. But as the story unfolds, this was the beginning of a week that would see Jesus brutally killed. In the account of the passion in the Gospel of Matthew, the whole terrible drama of sin is on full display. Yet this was not the end of the story. He rose to renew our hope by defeating the powers of sin, death and darkness.
