MASS READINGS FOR EASTER FRIDAY 17TH APRIL 2020

In the first reading today, the Apostles are arrested and accused of filling Jerusalem with the teaching of the resurrection of Jesus. The Apostles respond by saying that they do so 'in his name'.

For the Christian, all of what we say and do is meant to be under the direction of the Holy Spirit and be 'in his name'. That is why one of the first commandments is not to take the Lord's name in vain. His name is closely identified to the Lord himself. A good guide then for us when we are unsure of what to think, say or do is to ask ourselves can we think, say or do that 'in his name'. Very often we think and act out of our own needs and desires and make little room for the Holy Spirit and how God might be directing us to do good. Worth thinking about.
