Dear friends. We come to the last day of what we call the octave of Easter during which the Gospel at Mass every day featured an encounter of the risen Lord with his disciples. Each story and each encounter is magnificent in its power to transform the lives of those the Lord meets again. But what all of these encounters have in common is the theme of mercy. Mercy is what the risen Jesus offers to his first disciples, to the Church and to the world – not just then but particularly now, at this time when we need it and see our need for it.
