Friends, in the Gospel today, St John tells us that 'God so loved the world that he sent his only Son so that we might be saved and have eternal life'. Here is the heart of the Gospel. God has broken open his own heart so that we might enter into that life and know happiness and true peace. Here is God giving himself away in love through his Son. This is God's nature - to go out in love beyond itself, to serve and to save. This is the way of love that he shows us and gives us.
