In his second letter to Timothy, St Paul reminds Christians that 'anybody who tries to live in devotion to Christ is certain to be attacked'. Almost two millenia after these words were written, they still hold true. Christians are by far the religious group who are persecuted most in the world. If we are truly living the Gospel, we can be prepared to suffer for it. But this suffering is an invitation to a deeper trust and a greater maturity in faith. This is our call and destiny. In Jesus' cross we see the mysteries of love and suffering combined. We pray that anything we suffer because of our faith may give birth to a greater love for God and for all.
