MASS READINGS FOR WEDNESDAY 1ST JULY 2020 - FEAST DAY OF ST OLIVER PLUNKETT

Friends, today the Irish Church celebrates the feast of St Oliver Plunkett who was martyred on this day in 1681. Just over 100 years ago, on 23rd May 1920, Oliver was beatified by Pope Benedict XV and was canonized by Pope Paul VI in October 1975. Oliver was an outstanding example of courage and apostolic zeal for the faith and zeal for souls. At a time of sever restrictions imposed on the Church, he somehow manged to evangelise, organise, travel, meet people, serve, pray, preach and lead. This is the spirit of boldness that the Church needs today to proclaim its message.
