In other words, we humans are related to the created world we inhabit. That said, the discovery of the truth that human beings only arrived on the stage of the earth about 100,000 years ago in a universe that is about 13.8 billion years old, is a humble fact that challenges an overly anthropocentric understanding of the world - that is where human beings control, subdue and dominate the created world in a selfish way to exploit it without respect for creation itself. This is the key attitude that Pope Francis challenges in Laudato Si and the shift in understanding required as the first step in caring for the planet, our common home.
