NEWSLETTER INSERT - EMBRACING BOTH SCIENCE AND FAITH

As 'Science Week 2023' draws to a close, offered below are some inspiring quotes from people who believed in both science and in the Creator God who made the intelligibility of the natural world possible. These people challnge the lie that you have to choose either faith or reason or faith or science in order to pursue the truth.

"O you mysterious galaxies... I see you, I calculate you, I understand you, I study you and I discover you, I penetrate you and I gather you. From you I take light and make it knowledge, I take movement and make it wisdom, I take sparkling colours and make them poetry; I take you stars in my hands and, trembling in the oneness of my being, I raise you above yourselves and offer you in prayer to the Creator, that through me alone you stars can worship"

Enrico Medi

“These discoveries invite us to even greater admiration for the greatness of the Creator, prompting us to give him thanks for all his works and for the understanding and wisdom he gives to scholars and researchers. With Solomon they can say: "It is he who gave me unerring knowledge of what exists, to know the structure of the world and the activity of the elements. . . for wisdom, the fashioner of all things, taught me”.

(CCC, 283)

"Science is given to us by God as a way of allowing us to know Him more. But science cannot and does not replace God. Yes, believe in science but believe also in God whom we know better by observing his own handiwork. This is what science really is – the observance of God’s handiwork".

Billy Swan

"In a fresh and astounding way, reading and studying the book of creation has caused my head to bow, my knees to bend, my will to yield, may hands to serve, my mind to worship and my heart to fall in love all over again with the One whose glory is revealed in the heavens!"
