In the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus sends out 72 of his followers on mission. This is consistent with Pope Francis' call for us to be a missionary church that 'goes forth'. Here is a profound quote from the Holy Father. Our God is a missionary God who goes forth. Therefore, we must be the same.
‘We are called to go forth, to be an evangelising community, even if that simply means opening the front door of our homes and stepping out into our own neighbourhoods…For a disciple of Jesus no neighbour can become distant. On the contrary, there are no distant people who are too far removed, but only neighbours to reach out to. God does not wait for us to go to him but it is he who moves towards us. This is what God is like. What does this mean for us? It means that this is our road too. Following Jesus means learning to come out of ourselves’.
