THE FEAST OF ST MARK - EVANGELIST AND WRITER OF THE EARLIEST GOSPEL

Today, 25th April, the Church celebrates the feats of St Mark. Mark was a companion of St Peter and his gospel is considered to be the earliest of the four - written in Rome sometime around 65-70AD. Because it is the earliest, themes that are developed further in the later gospels are more primitive in Mark. That said, what is abundantly clear is that Mark's understanding of Jesus was him of the suffering Messiah. Here, Bishop Robert Barron delves into the shortest and earliest Gospel and underlines themes that are unique to Mark.
