MASS READINGS FOR WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY 2020 - FEAST OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA

Dear friends, in the Gospel today is the beautiful image of the vine and the branches. Jesus tells us that He is the vine and we are the branches. What is he trying to teach us here? Something absolutely essential - namely that our relationship to him is not something that remains at the level of imitation. Rather it is a relationship that is living and organic. It is about connection and participation. God and his love are not external to us but because of our baptism, we participate in that same divine life and because we do, our lives will bear fruit as long as we welcome that life, nurture it and treasure it. For 'cut off from me you can do nothing'. Cut off from Christ our lives wither and bear no fruit.
