MASS READINGS FOR SATURDAY 23RD MAY 2020

Friends, in the Gospel today, Jesus encourages us to ask God for what we need - to pray our needs. Why does he do this if God knows everything already? God is a like a loving mother who encourages her child to ask for what it needs in a trusting way. Most of the time, the mother knows what the child needs before the child does, but she delights in the child asking her in a spirit of trust. This asking and exchange between the child and the mother deepens their relationship. So it is with us and God. Jesus taught us to pray and to ask for what we need, 'our daily bread'. In this asking, we are brought closer to our loving God, even if the answer we get is not to our liking. God always answers us out of love for us, even if that answer is 'No'.
