MASS READINGS FOR THURSDAY 4TH JUNE 2020

Friends, in today's Gospel exchange between the Lord and a scribe, Jesus gets to the core of the Christian life. For both Jews and Christians, we are called to love God with all our hearts, strength, minds and heart. This is not a cold command since we believe that 'God loved us first' (1 John 4:19). We can only love in response to God's love that comes first. Love is a not a feeling although feelings can accompany love. Love is a command and a grace from God. To love is to will the good of the other as other. But love is also a grace. To love like God is to participate in God's art of loving which is always pure and perfect. So today, let us allow ourselves to be loved first by God and then love others as he asks us today. Let us also pray to the Spirit for the grace to love perfectly.
