MASS READINGS FOR WEDNESDAY 17TH JUNE 2020

Friends, in today's Gospel Jesus teaches us the importance of fasting, prayer and almsgiving. We associate these disciplines with the season of Lent but they are meant to be part of our lives throughout the year as well - for example the practice of fasting on Fridays. Jesus knows that without discipline in these areas, living the Christian life will not be possible. Fasting is good because it places our passions and sensual needs under our first call which is living our vocation from God and doing his will. Prayer is good because it nurtures our relationship with God as something living and yet fragile. Almsgiving is necessary because our first vocation is to love and to live lives of mercy and charity.
