Friends, today the Church celebrates the birth of John the Baptist who was the forerunner of Jesus, the Messiah. He pointed to Christ and directed the attention of the people to him: 'Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world'; 'He must increase, I must decrease'.
For us as Christians, John's humble example is a lesson for us all. The values of the witness we give is when it points away from ourselves and to God and his glory - when it leads people closer to faith in him.
