In response to a growing interest in the Catholic faith, the Archdiocese of Southwark in England has launched Ambassadors for Christ, a landmark apologetics project. It is a video series that is designed to equip you with a deeper understanding of your faith, so you can confidently answer questions and be a joyful witness for the Lord Jesus and his Church.
As St Paul said, “we are ambassadors for Christ” (2 Cor 5:20). This is an active commission on all baptised Christians to guide people toward God. Following the Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20) by the Lord Jesus, we must be ready – as St Peter said (1 Peter 3:10) – to provide answers for the hope within us.
A
pologetics means to defend and explain the teachings of the Catholic Church, using Scripture, the Church Fathers and Church Teaching.
It does not mean saying “sorry”, but comes from the Greek word “apologia” which means defence.
In our increasingly secularised world, followers of Christ more than ever need to be ready to speak confidently and accurately about the Lord Jesus and his saving work.
That is what great apologetics achieves, answering common questions, criticisms and myths about our faith with truth.
Every Monday throughout 2026, a new video answering a question, objection or myth will be posted on the Diocesan YouTube channel: youtube.com/RCSouthwark1.
