The Iona Institute
The Iona Institute has recent published a study of current baptism trends underway in Ireland. It is a timely study given the increasing emphasis on the role of all the baptised within the Church community.
The paper is an excellent example of how The Iona Institute has always sought to get relevant information out into the public arena, especially to do with trends around religion and the family. Your support is absolutely vital to their continued work. In particular these days we are following demographic trends, and also evidence of a 'quiet revival' among some young people.
The decline in baptisms is driven first and foremost by a falling birth rate, and secondly by rising secularism. But the paper also notes that 'cultural Catholicism' remains strong in Ireland. Despite the falling number of Catholic baptisms, lots of babies are still being baptised.
