There’s a wise and kind African proverb that reminds us that “God makes a way where there’s no way”. Based on lived experience I know this to be true across many areas of my own life. Our God of eternal love comes to seek and greet us. For all of us, in unique ways, God whispers an invitation to live in love and act positively for life and renewal. Across the joys, challenges, and paradoxes that make up our ordinary lives, God whispers our Soul Purpose.
Within each of us lies a calling. Across the journey of our lives this calling deepens and broadens, often to include, in the words of Mother Teresa, “a call within a call”. These calls include fresh invitations to new adventures in spirit and life. It is essential that we learn to listen and converse with these invitations and act on them toward the fulfillment of a unique, meaningful and complete life.
In truth it can be said that all intentional prayer begins by placing ourselves in the presence of our loving, all embracing God. This God we continue to seek, seeks us first, and is not to be found far from us. Indeed our God dwells within.
On the 21st of November 2008 during the practice of placing myself in the presence of God I wrote my first Soul Purpose reflection. (Heart Maps for Our Journey Home)
Reflecting now on writing what has come to be well over 1700 Soul Purpose meditations, a number of observations emerged as to why, for me, they have been and continue to be a sign of God’s kind support, love and action in my life.
I see now the initial invitation to write these mediations emerged from a heartfelt desire to create a spirit or soul map for those I love in the world toward connecting with God’s love, peace and spirit. To this day, writing these words encourages me to slow my life, listen and honour more deeply my experience and intuition.
The practice of waiting prayerfully and listening with an open heart continues to support me towards rest in God’s presence, greater kindness for self and I hope openness to others along the way. I also hope that through these given words I am learning to live more gratefully in the awakening knowledge that all that is precious in life is freely given, especially the ongoing forgiveness that frees us all to live in light.
Whatever YOUR situation or circumstances may be at this time based on your joys, achievements, heartbreaks, setbacks or personal failures, I pray that reflecting on this small random selection of Soul Purpose meditations will open your heart to your unique “Invitation to Light” and support you to experience God’s kindness more fully for living in the world. I especially hope that for you and all of us, we will continue to experience the truth of God’s care, in the sure knowledge that God can and does indeed make a way where there’s no way.
