INSPIRING ADDRESS BY BISHOP STEPHEN WANG
In a deeply personal and moving address at the conclusion of his episcopal installation Mass at Arundel Cathedral, Bishop Stephen Wang, the new Bishop of Arundel & Brighton, reflects on his remarkable journey of faith, God's providence and the mission entrusted to him.
Recalling his conversion to Catholicism at just 19 years old, Bishop Wang shares how he knew enough about Jesus Christ to take that first step of faith — but had no idea where it would lead.
Forty years later, as he begins his ministry as bishop, he reflects on the words of St Paul that have accompanied him since his conversion: “The one who calls you is faithful.”
With warmth, humour and heartfelt gratitude, Bishop Wang pays tribute to his family, including his father, who had celebrated his 90th birthday just days earlier. He also speaks about the unexpected peace he experienced following his appointment and the importance of trusting God even when the future is uncertain.
In a special moment, Bishop Wang publicly reveals his episcopal motto for the first time: Veritas in Caritate (Truth in Love).
Drawing on St Paul's Letter to the Ephesians, he explains why truth and love must always belong together and how this conviction has shaped his priesthood.
Looking ahead, Bishop Wang calls the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton to grow in holiness, reach out to those in need and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
