As the Catholic Church in Ireland continues its synodal journey, the National Synodal Team has published ‘Baptised and Sent’ - a key preparatory document for the upcoming Pre-Synodal Assembly which will be held on 18 October 2025 at the Kilkenny Convention Centre.
Julieann Moran, General Secretary of the Irish Synodal Pathway, welcomed Baptised and Sent saying, “This Assembly marks an important step towards Ireland’s first full Synodal Assembly in 2026. Rooted in prayer, listening, and discernment, 'Baptised and Sent' captures insights from local gatherings held earlier this year and outlines emerging priorities for the Church in Ireland.
“We are delighted to share this document, which highlights the emerging priorities for the road ahead. When we began this journey, we asked: What does God want from the Church in Ireland at this time?”
Julieann stressed that the Synodal Pathway is not limited to those attending the Assembly, “The Irish Synodal Pathway is not about a single event, but about building a culture of listening and walking together as Christ’s people. It is a journey for the whole Church in Ireland.”
'Baptised and Sent' focuses on baptism as the foundation of Christian dignity, unity, and mission. It also highlights key themes such as greater inclusion, healing, lay and female leadership, faith formation, and support for families and young people.
Julieann added, 'Baptised and Sent' is not a conclusion but a step forward. Everyone – whether active in the Church or feeling distant – is invited to engage with this document and help shape a more welcoming, healing, and Gospel-centred Church.”
