ON THE DIVIDED HEART
‘The heart governs and reigns over the whole bodily organism; and when grace possesses the ranges of the heart, it rules over all the members and thoughts…In the heart is the workshop of righteousness and of wickedness. In it is death, in it is life. The heart is Christ’s palace there Christ the King comes to take his rest with the angels and the spirits of the Saints and he dwells there walking within it and placing his Kingdom there’.
Pseudo-Macarius, Homily 15.
ON REPENTANCE
‘Repentance means killing part of yourself, undergoing a kind of death’.
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.
‘Repentance means: not primarily a sense of regret but a renunciation of narrow and sectarian human views which are not large enough for God’s mystery’.
Kathleen Norris, Dakota; a Spiritual Geography, New York, Houghton Mifflin, 2001, 197.
ON THE TENDERNESS OF GOD
‘The heart is also capable of unifying and harmonizing our personal history, which may seem hopelessly fragmented, yet is the place where everything can make sense’.
Pope Francis, He Loved Us, 19.
‘The Lord knows the fine science of the caress. In his compassion, God does not love us with words; he comes forth to meet us and, by his closeness, he shows us the depth of his tender love’.
Pope Francis, He Loved Us, 36.
