This Mission Sunday, 19th October, Bishop Ger will ordain to the permanent diaconate Mr. Fintan Fanning in St Mary’s Church, Gorey during the 10am Mass. Fintan lives in Ashford, Co. Wicklow. His mother hails from Kilanerin. Fintan is a retired Garda and is married Eleanor with four children. For the past few years of his training and preparation, Fintan has been ministering in the parish of Gorey. He will be ordained for service in the diocese of Ferns.

The ministry of deacons is a servant leadership role within the church focused on Word, Charity, and Liturgy. Deacons serve as a link between the church and the community, bringing the needs of the world to the church and carrying the gospel's message back out into the world. This ministry includes roles such as preaching, assisting with sacraments like baptism and marriage, and charitable work like visiting the sick and homeless.

We wish Fintan every blessing as he becomes a deacon and many years of happy and fulfilled ministry in the service of the Lord and his people.

Below is an interview with Fintan recorded some time ago in which he talks about his journey and hopes for the future.
