OUR LADY'S ISLAND PILGRIMAGE SEASON 2021

From Fr Jim Cogley, PP, Our Lady's Island

First apologies for this late notice; we had hoped that the annual pilgrimage in Our Lady’s Island would go ahead more or less as usual this year and so left making final decisions until the last hour. The unpredictability of Covid and being subject to Government guidelines, for both indoor and outdoor gatherings, we are forced yet again to cancel our large events and conduct all services from within the Church. These will be transmitted via web-cam and also be available on car radios on 106FM. We will stay with the usual times of daily masses at 3pm and 8pm.

The Opening Ceremony will be conducted by Denis Brennan and the Closing on the 8th September by Our new Bishop Ger Nash. Both events will be at 3pm

It is customary for many priests to book a parish gathering for an evening or afternoon and we would invite you to do so as soon as possible. Ring Ann Carthy on 0876464198 for booking. Most of the age group coming will have had their vaccines so the risk factor should be minimal, however bus groups may not be advisable just yet.

You are invited to celebrate the Mass on the day you book unless it clashes with something that can’t be rescheduled. You might like also to bring a few musicians and have readers etc.

Such an event provides a much welcome opportunity for people to gather and socialize after months of isolation. So we would encourage you to promote the pilgrimage, even in its restricted form, and do whatever it takes to mobilize parishioners. Any such event that helps people to come out of isolation needs to be grasped as so many are still in lockdown mode and suffering from a residual nervousness, even in relation to coming back to church.

With best wishes.

Jim Cogley
