'THE DESERT FATHERS IN A YEAR' - EPISODE 14 - COMPUNCTION

Many of the Desert Fathers including John Cassian often used the term 'compunction' to describe the experience of feeling sorrow for sin that leads in turn to receiving God's mercy and results in a change in our nature. It comes from the same root word as to 'puncture' referring to a grace that punctures the inflated human ego that is a prelude to us being re-inflated with the Holy Spirit.
