It is the idea that many are presented with and encouraged to pursue, namely that a persons core identity is not a given or fixed but rather is more liquid. An extreme form of this is seen with gender ideology that promotes the idea that one can identify as a man or a woman depending on what you choose, despite your biological sex being male or female.
