TROCAIRE'S LENTEN CAMPAIGN

Friends, from a humanitarian point of view, this Lent has been dominated by the tragedy unfolding in Ukraine with the displacement of millions of people because of the war. While the needs of Ukraine have been rightly highlighted, there are other humanitarian situations that we cannot ignore. One of these situations is the plight of millions of people who are suffering the effects of climate change in the horn of Africa and whose very survival is at risk, mainly because of drought.

The Trocaire Lenten campaign 2022 highlights the plight of these people and this week, as Lent draws to a close, we urge everyone to support the campaign to provide essential funds for the relief effort in countries like Zimbabwe. Below is the story of a woman struggling to feed herself and her family. You can find out more details about Trocaire’s Lenten campaign by clicking the link below. You can also hear a talk by Ms Caoimhe De Barra CEO, Trócaire at a recent talk during Lent.

Suffering for food, water, and a basic livelihood should never be part of anyone’s life. Yet it is for Thandekile and her family. Widowed by Covid, she is doing all she can to give her children a future. But in the grip of climate change and poverty, she’s losing ground. Your Lenten donation of any size now means more families like hers can eat, children can stay in school, lasting livelihoods can be built, and a better tomorrow can belong to us all.
