VISIT OF RELICS OF ST THERESE OF LISIEUX AND HER PARENTS

The Carmelite Monastery in Tallow, Co Waterford, will welcome the relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux and her parents, Sts Louis and Zélie Martin, for a special three-day visit from 11 to 13 September.
The visit will offer pilgrims an opportunity to come together in prayer, reflection and thanksgiving, with a programme of Eucharistic celebrations, prayer services, reflections and opportunities for personal prayer before the relics.
The relics will arrive at the monastery at 4.30pm on 11 September, when they will be formally received by Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore. The evening will include prayer and Eucharistic Adoration, followed by personal prayer at the relics and night prayer.
Speaking about the weekend, Bishop Cullinan said, “Every year children across the Diocese here write a letter to the bishop explaining why they wish to be confirmed and what they pray for. In every letter family is mentioned. The visit of the relics of St Thérèse and her parents will be an opportunity to pray for marriage and family, and especially for unity, healing and peace in family life. All are most welcome. May these days be a time of grace for us all.”
Saturday, 12 September , will have a particular focus on family life. The morning programme, entitled ‘Come as a Family’, will explore the love and faith that united Louis and Zélie Martin and shaped their family life. A Family Eucharist will follow at noon.
The afternoon will include a special Prayer of Intercession for the Sick and for healthcare professionals, followed by the Anointing of the Sick and a blessing with the relics. The evening programme will feature Eucharistic Adoration and a reflection entitled ‘Our Lady of the Smile’.
The visit will conclude on Sunday, 13 September , with a Eucharist and a period of keeping vigil, before a farewell Mass at 4pm.
Organisers are inviting people of all ages to come as pilgrims and entrust their personal and family intentions to the saints through prayer.
