There have been troubling developments in America in recent weeks concerning abortion laws. On 10th August, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, signed into law a bill that makes abortion legal up until the birth of the infant. Massachusetts has now become the tenth state (plus the District of Columbia) to allow elective abortion up until birth. More are expected to follow. This development sees all rights of the unborn being abolished, even that of a child whose life is viable outside the womb and even a child about to be born. During the public debate in Ireland on the repeal of the Eighth-Amendment in 2018, warnings from Pro-Life spokespeople about a slippery slope were dismissed as scare mongering. The recent events in America are proof, not just that such a slippery slope exists, but of where it ends.
