Dr Matthew Petrusek, Word on Fire

Few issues are more contentious today than immigration. There has been controversy and violence in America, Ireland and many other countries who are trying to deal with the influx of migrants. The Church also has a very important role in the debate, for faith communities and schools can play a vital role in the integration of immigrants into the culture and life of the countries where they arrive.

In the article below, Matthew Petrusek of 'Word on Fire' strikes a balance between rights and responsibilities of both host nations and of migrants themselves. It is also a balance between justice and mercy - the right of countries to patrol its borders and control who enters a country, the responsibilities of people towards the country they wish to call home and the responsibilities of host nations to treat vulnerable people with care and compassion.
